Links for the midnight in Brazil

Well, remembering the old web days this site by wunderman is so well executed that deserves a detailed look at. This site is part of a bigger campaign for Coca cola zero.

Old news (september) but a good case for bluetooth ads lovers out there. This text talks about bluetooth ads in supermarket and says something pretty interesting : approximately 25% of Dutch clients leave their Bluetooth on. If you felt some music with this text, try this other one, a report about how effective mobile ads will be part of successful campaigns and not so useful by themselves.

Coming back… apple news

After the launch of a highly wanted macbook pro with core 2 duo processors, apple is moving behind the curtains again with some patents.

First the “bevel” based ui. It is a very simple but interest concept. Somewhat for me just a more complex version of what iRiver started with the Clix (I know there was one device before that).

Now the patents lead us (maybe wrongly) to a next gen IPod with camera and also there’s ome movement on iPhone brand movement.

Along with that, 750 giga custom Imacs and brand new documents about the new features in Leopard

Let’s wait to really see what patents will see the light in a product form, and which is going to fade and be gone on some PR exec for a future patent fight. While we wait let’s at least clarify the “Why there’s a limit of 3 gigs of RAM in the MB pro?”

For those into google and Macs… Mac Blog!

Google has launched it’s mac oriented blog and along with the software download page it’s showing off some love for mac users. I’ve also tried out some of the appz there that I didn’t know nothing about:

The picasa web albums exporter for iPhoto :
Well, this thing didn’t worked perfectly in my first album (an odd error message) but the album was there. For those that didn’t know about the webalbums, (like my linux-oriented friends) the album looks a lot like flickr, but with a simpler and uglier interface. Ok it’s a beta-beta but I expected more. The only felling that I have right now about Picasa and it’s webalbums is:
“Damn! No chance of having Picasa for OSX”. I don’t hate iPhoto but Picasa is a lot better.

The exporter plugins is easy, simple and very straightforward. Select pictures, file -> export, choose the album name, a quality setting (very limited for me: only 3 choices) click upload and you are ready to go.

Despite of everything on thing is looking good in the end: Google and Apple are getting closer and closer and if in the future google really plans something like a “Google OS” (which I doubt) it would be wiser to see a OSX in the background instead of a Gnu/linux. Even better: a OsX with a Gnu/Linux Kernel replacing the currently darwin kernel. That would be sweet but I confess it’s easier to see an Iphone, then a Ipda before we can put our hopes on a Linux powered OSX.

Now that everyone talked about it…

aeon concept by nokiaWhen you go to Nokia Research and Development website the first 3 images you’ll get show off one hell of device that at least exists in some Designer’s mind. The good thing is: this designer is actually inside Nokia, and was allowed to publish his concept. Ok ok, we’ve seen the black concept from BenQ some weeks ago but this concept, a little bit harder to exists today because of this curveous surface / screen, but a lot fancier to look at than BenQ’s black box.

Questions:
What is missing to make such devices (all screen) possible? Screen cost? Screen protection?
How to prevent screens from getting too dirty while using it only with your fingers?

If rumors are true, we are almost ready to see some answers coming from Apple with the almost-a-myth Touchscreen Ipod, let’s wait

In-memory Database for j2me developers from mcobject, and a more advanced database for embedded devices from hitachi.
Speaking of mobile, what about going deeper on “the state of linux on mobile devices” or going really deeper on “Cell processor for mobile phones”

Can someone tell Joe Sharkey that…

the Pilots, from the USA are in the Brazil! BRAZIL not US. If the pilots were brazilian in the USA not only they would be inside some FBI / CIA office but also their families. For sure would be talks about terrorism and a lot of suspects also.

For sure they are being treated a lot better than a Brazilian would be in the US.

What’s wrong with you people? they were involved with the death of 155 people and they were invited to stay and colaborate just as brazilian Gov invited americans insitutions to participate. What else do you want?

Gol flight 1907

Well, I was avoiding writing here until all my hope was gone. This unbelievable accident happened last friday and everyone is waiting to know what really happened. Looking at the bigger piece of the plane shown by the media, the wing section in the middle of the threes, its very likely that the plane broke into pieces while in the air.

Apart of any detail of this incident the sad news is that 2 friends & co-workers were there. 2 lovely woman that were very very special and will be missed forever. From Patricia I will always remember those blue eyes telling stories about incredible trips and also the way she handled everything. Janine can be defined as a mother. As HR she took care of a bunch of Geeks and made the impossible to make our lives better. I wish I could talk to them once more mainly to apologize for anything and to say a huge “thank you”.

Thank you girls, you will be forever in our hearts.
