Canola Videos: Learning Canola the easy way

Lot’s of video coming out our office =) You will be able to see a lot of Canola action, and also a thank you to all the guys who waited a lot for the release, sending a lot of comments here.

Video showing off the WoodBox Theme, Exchanging cards and saying thank you

Canola HOW TO : first video showing off the features in canola.

Take a look at this video to learn about the canola applet, using the configurator, shared media browsing, now playing shortcuts etc.

Under the Hood : 3 am in Brazil, after some months of hard working and overnight hours in the last weeks.

I’m not able to keep my eye opens! But it has been a lot of fun.

I would like to listen to my ogg files though. I have installed the gstreamer plugins but it looks like Canola doesn’t list them : is there a way to specify wich file are to be shown ?

Thanks and Félicitation pour votre travail !

    Hi

I’m using the nokia 770 with lastest firmware from nokia. I’ve installed following your instructions and everything is fine, but I don’t get somethings:

1 – I didn’t add the http://repository.maemo.org/ scirocco non-free free dependency at first, but it installed correctly. Then, I added them and there were no updates available (at all). Canola wes intalled, so I rebooted. Started a bit to use it and it works.

    2 – I don’t know if I’m using the scirocco distro.

My 2cents: The lastest distro is the scirocco one, and it seems the canola package doesn’t need any of the other packages? I don’t really know, but I would like to know.

Could you please explain me these things?

    thanks

Great Job!! Thank you so much, amazing app ;)

Just want to give you some feedback. I use the first version of OS2006 launched in spring. I changed in the repositories Scirocco for Mistral like you say we have to do. But i always get “Instalation error, package not available” (thats a free translation). Then i´ve tried with the repositories with Scirocco instead of Mistral and all works fine!! ;)

We hope to see you in todosymbian.com again when you´ll sleep some hours. Greetings from Spain ;)

Very soon, I expect to compose a video using the Canola powered 770 as an in-car entertainment device. This makes me happy.

Very nice work guys. Thanks a trillion for this.

I wonder if one day it would be possible to have Canola as the default media application in future OS updates. It’s like 4 programs in one and it looks fantastic.

Sunbit: we teste it with :

Twonky (mac and linux) – (video, pictures & audio)
SimpleCenter (windows) – (video, pictures & audio)
Tversity (windows) – (video, pictures & audio)
MythTv AV : pictures & audio (.nuv not supported)

If you supply more names we can take a look. but I can assure you we did a standards based application, so problems could be happening in your network settings, or in the server configuration.

Hey hi Handful – Thanks again for this great app !

As for the servers comptibilities, on Mac OS X (10.4.8) I have tested with no success : EyeConnect from ElGato – which looks good but even if Canola ’sees’ the server’s name and list its name under each categories it is unable to browse though the whole items …

I also wanted to test the Philipps Media manager … but err I crash at at launch (that is a REAL beta on Mac)

just tried with twonky and works exellent, it does the job and does it well!! but is the only one in liunx that i suceed to run OK.

There is any plan to port canola to a normal Desktop? I’m dreaming of a canola-powered media center side-to-side of my television :P The only thing i found similar to canola up to now is Elisa from fluendo, but, not as far as eye-candy as canola (personal opinion, of course).

Hey you said “it already runs on the desktop”.

I tried to add the same repositories as in te 770, because i saw a i386-binary folder under dists in the canola repository, but there isn’t any packages.gz in mistral neither in sirocco.

    Am I doing something wrong?

    Thank you !!

Awesome application, great usability, thanks a lot! Who wants to bye my iPod? :)

Since you’re wishing to get feedback, here are my feature requests for future versions:

    1) A caching mechanism on rssmmc for podcasts would be cool. The user would be able to scrub through the medium and leave the wifiarea without interrupting the playback.

    2) Videocasts: Since the 770 plays 3GP- and (adjusted) MPEG4-files out of the box, the possibility to subscribe to videocasts that enclose these media would make sense. I didn’t tried canola’s videofunctionality so far, so processing other codecs (e.g. via libavcodec) is already possible!?!

    Best regards,
    Fabian
