So… After the launching what it’s iPhone all about?
New Features? Not really. Most of things shown there are already present in products like the N95, and in a feature comparison side-by-side the N95 wins with 3G and GPS capabilities.
The real new thing in the new IPhone is the Multi point touch screen, what leads me to believe that is going to be the first mass product to have it. Also, if the screen can really keep itself clean after usage it would be great. So apple again did some really good things in the product design and the UI design, really showing the other manufactures that beautiful and usable not only usable UI does matter and does attract new users to your products.
Also, I’m pretty happy to see Apple pushing up the bar to the Touchscreen, and showing that there’s a way to make a complete device without a stylus. Stylus sux. (that’s why we did Canola) and now I’m even more happy to see that things that I defended in the last couple of years were not craziness.
Now it’s time to wait and see the ” no accidental clicks” and the ” works like magic” things that for mere are more related with the underling touchscreen technology that apple patented last year (I linked here somewhere)
What I would like to see is further improvements in the Internet Tablet form factor (With improved hardware spec) based on the Nokia 770. (Not the Nokia N800?)
It would be really nice to take the Nokia 770 and make ALL the front panel display all the way to the very edges of the device maximising display real estate. If we kept the sleeve idea of the Nokia 770 this would protect the larger screen estate when not in use and even during use!
This way control and playability could all be achieved from the larger touch pad display. The Nokia 770 is great for slipping into the jacket pocket, do not lose sight of this benefit Nokia.
With a Canola interface already working, you have a chance to beat Apple and the iphone, use the open source community to help you more and most importantly be sure your marketing tactics do not alienate your fledgeling Internet Tablet User community
I have watched the Internet Tablet Talk forum descend into chaos over the release of the N800, where currently it’s effectively just fan boy small talk…. Compare that to a few months ago with people willingly looking to getting various applications working on the Nokia 770 in a reasonably focused manner.
Stereo speakers in the device, who really needs speakers, just give us a headphone socket and perhaps a slick base unit to plug into that provides power charging, USB, LAN Network and AV connection possibilities to our networks the Hi-fi and TV’s. Hey we could then even plug in a USB keyboard and mouse into a BASE UNIT.
I know I have just had a Nokia rant moment, but who and what has made me feel like this? I think it’s the release of the Nokia N800 with it’s design “slide away” from the Nokia N770 form factor!
Please tell me there is a son or daughter of the Nokia 770. I am hoping and waiting, lets hope the wait is not too long ;-)
PS, not posted this in Internet Tablet Talk directly because then it would get drowned in the fan boy waffle.
Keep Going Canola team, you are on the right path, if I can be of any help!!
Again apologies for my heartfelt rant at Nokia in this comment post. Oh I just had another thought, perhaps the Nokia N800 is really Nokia’s way of keeping competitors off the real scent. A more powerful well equipped re-incarnation of the Nokia N770 :-) ;-)
