Things haven’t changed that much in the UI but…

We are almost there. Really. just polishing /testing the final things and make sure everything is going to be hell easy with the installation!

Yes, no problem for 770 users, or n800 users no more repositories to add and all those problems we ran into with the previous version.

So, the ui has just a few improvements on some features, but under the hood it’s a major release : lots of fixes, enhancements, better cpu usage and improved upnp support.

the only thing I really miss is the itunes7 : /

Canola launching is today!

Ok, this is my last post before the launching. Today it’s the big day and of course I’m going to use each minute of this day to make sure everything is fine. Testing repositories, testing and retesting debians package with mistral and scirrocco (wrong I know) finishing the hot site with instructions, known issues and of course + videos, and to end also launch our lab’s site, Openbossa.

So folks, we did our best, we hope you all enjoy canola, and the most important thing : please give us a lot of feedback. Your comments will be the main motivation for the future versions and of course we will try our best to make it better and better.

It’s 1:27 am , november 29th, and I’ll post again only to link to the hotsite, etc. Hours left only know.. OMG! so much to do! no sleep, no rest… every project has been like this in all these 7 years of professional experience, but I really don’t want to give up doing things like this!

Canola launching approaching!

Yes the deadline is pretty near. Now it’s 03:05am in Recife, Brazil and we just left the office. Some final tests with the Canola configuration tool, and a lot of UI polishing to it. Funny moments in this final stage: It’s the first time that I’m working with an application that needs to be tested in a device besides the computer with the same stylesheet and focusing mainly on readability, because the Nokia 770 has one of the most impressive resolutions in the market. So, the text that is pretty visible on the desktop version may not be so easy on the eyes in the 770.

The worst part is the need of transfering all files for very simple tests, cause there’s no way to emulate the felling in a conventional lcd monitor. (I’m using a apple cinema display). So, my first tip for people engaging in project like this is : save your photoshop mockups in a png file, create a simple html without borders and test it a lot before setting up the html markup.

The good thing: I’m impressed to see mochikit working pretty well on both Nokia 770 default browser (Opera based) and in the Minimo (mozilla port). Our application is pure html + ajax and it’s working pretty well!

I think I will allow myself now some 4 hours of sleep. see you!

Coming back… apple news

After the launch of a highly wanted macbook pro with core 2 duo processors, apple is moving behind the curtains again with some patents.

First the “bevel” based ui. It is a very simple but interest concept. Somewhat for me just a more complex version of what iRiver started with the Clix (I know there was one device before that).
bevel UI
More pics : follow the link

Now the patents lead us (maybe wrongly) to a next gen IPod with camera and also there’s ome movement on iPhone brand movement.

Along with that, 750 giga custom Imacs and brand new documents about the new features in Leopard

Let’s wait to really see what patents will see the light in a product form, and which is going to fade and be gone on some PR exec for a future patent fight. While we wait let’s at least clarify the “Why there’s a limit of 3 gigs of RAM in the MB pro?”

Can someone tell Joe Sharkey that…

the Pilots, from the USA are in the Brazil! BRAZIL not US. If the pilots were brazilian in the USA not only they would be inside some FBI / CIA office but also their families. For sure would be talks about terrorism and a lot of suspects also.

For sure they are being treated a lot better than a Brazilian would be in the US.

What’s wrong with you people? they were involved with the death of 155 people and they were invited to stay and colaborate just as brazilian Gov invited americans insitutions to participate. What else do you want?

Gol flight 1907

Well, I was avoiding writing here until all my hope was gone. This unbelievable accident happened last friday and everyone is waiting to know what really happened. Looking at the bigger piece of the plane shown by the media, the wing section in the middle of the threes, its very likely that the plane broke into pieces while in the air.

Apart of any detail of this incident the sad news is that 2 friends & co-workers were there. 2 lovely woman that were very very special and will be missed forever. From Patricia I will always remember those blue eyes telling stories about incredible trips and also the way she handled everything. Janine can be defined as a mother. As HR she took care of a bunch of Geeks and made the impossible to make our lives better. I wish I could talk to them once more mainly to apologize for anything and to say a huge “thank you”.

Thank you girls, you will be forever in our hearts.
