Ha! the guys just keep surprising me
There’s nothing better in the world than work with passionate people.
If you know me you can see how I get when I talk about the work, the office, how I get really pissed sometimes etc. I’m a real passionate mtf*** . And now I have examples almost daily of the same feeling all around me.
Here in INdT, Developers, Designers are really really passionate. Althougth we do have to keep things on track, theres a hunger for doing better, cleaner faster and more beautiful than it already is.
So It has been quite a month! First I saw some of the crazy ideas on the picture view implemented, then they are choppy, not so fast, and after a whole weekend hacking the guys made it quite smooth.
After that I receive a version for playing and when I go test the theme swtich, BAM! surprise a REAL nice thing happens. I was really not expecting. Why? Because we had no time to do it, but the guys do on free time, weekends, over night whatever.
Yesterday People didn’t went home after all the hours and the team presented me this morning another surprise and even if it seems pretty ridiculous to someone, I can make sure that this is plus work and people do because believe in the whole project:
Remember Gustavo’s Keyboard demo? André after hacking ecore input did a great job last night and now we have a translucent keyboard not using the whole screen! YEAH!
Now, the plan is to have this as optional keyboard. And of course IT WILL NOT HAVE THIS iPhone look!
Cool! While in the translucent topic, why not make the background of the keyboard translucent too. Make the keys look that they’re floating. ;)
November 21st, 2007 at 9:30 amReggie it actually support full translucent =) but I think this would be too much noise =) but for a demo why not? =)
November 21st, 2007 at 10:25 amWow! Realy amazing…
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:54 pmAnd I agree with dudu, an trasnlucent keyboard, even being something beautiful, make that exhausting to read, and one day, you gonna want to disable that, maybe a button, or gesture with the finger, to make translucent, only to read, or see something behind…
:D
Yeah, the iPhone’s look like keyboard is, kind a ¿weird? to use in another product, but is a great keyboard, make something diferent gonna be a problem no?
November 22nd, 2007 at 2:00 pm@Marco Actually gustavo choosed to do a “iphone” like to bring attention. If you download the source code you’re going to be amazed that there’s almost no code (more edje scripts - ok code).
The plan is (when time is available) to redesign the whole keyboard, add some missing keys, maybe enable a “dev” friendly version etc an of course add a original visual.
November 22nd, 2007 at 3:53 pmTwo ideas.
1) Only display letters (with black borders) and no ‘keyboard’ - let you actually see background.
2) A keyboard that can be manually raised and generates X input events - for use with non-hildon apps.

Hi Pupnik :
We actually tried the fulltransparent : / but it gets quite unreadable in several situations (webpage with black backgrounds) even when we tried adding stroke to it.
Andrunko did the bindings to connect it to the hildon thing, but is done for “non-hildon” application (canola) :) but it needs a transparent window to be drawn on top of non EVAS applications : /
If we have time we would like to invest more on this, and probably provide sources for those improvements also!
