What’s coming

I made this video while ago, but it’s nice to see that are step by step moving to it :)
Youtube is coming to beta6, and we are working as hard as we can to make Upnp available for Beta7. We are just not satisfied with the user experience as it is. Of course I need to add this here or the developers will kill me: don’t take the video for granted, bad things can happen on the dev path blabla :) you got the point!

From our experiences we know that those guys will generate a lot of requests / bugs and specially Upnp will be a lot of work to fix compatibility to custom servers. That’s why we are trying to improve Canola2 itself to the maximum so then we can focus at least for a sprint on fixing youtube, upnp stuff.

Again, time is the only villain : /

Info : you can see that the menu is actually “media servers” then a ball for the upnp devices (names will probably change) this means that we are open one room, just for those guys, so if people want to implement support for other servers/standards they can be placed here :)

This Last.FM expansion is looking very promising. Honestly, last.fm support and the on-the-fly playlist creation are the only features that keep me coming back to Kagu. Not to downplay Kagu, its just the eye candy Canola offers is, well, beautiful.

You guys are doing a incredible job over there. If you need a guinea pig you’ve got a volunteer.

    Hi Jon :)

We are working hard to enable the features as we go.
It took a long time because we did a fully feature platform :) now it’s easy to deploy things, and we expect to see more and more in the future.

Last.fm will combine the scrobbling and the full browsing of radios, and the playlist is also being made, we plan to start the test next week. It will be pretty simple (hold music add to dynamic playlist, save it with a name etc) but it will enable you to do a basic playlist creation etc.

Hope this helps brings another user to canola :)

I finally purchased an N800 and I’ve been experimenting with various media players since. I jump back and forth between Kagu, Ukmp, MediaBox, and Canola because each seem to offer unique features. Kagu has Last.FM and playlists; UKMP has YouTube and playlists; MediaBox has FM support. I just began testing the screen rotation with Canola and its great(scrolling through my music collection is just plain awesome).

I’ve got to say that Canola is on the edge of being, well, perfect. Almost all the features of the other players have been integrated already, therefore, my hat goes off to you and your team.

Now, I’ve only one question to ask. And curse me for my laziness if this has been answer, but is there a theme template that I could toy with? One thing I like about Kagu and Ukmp is the ability to customize the look. If I could do that with Canola, well, I would spend countless hours doing just that.

    Thanks.
