Canola2 beta6 Released
Yes, one more beta in this long road to final version :) if it is going to ever be a final version (just to be trendy we will be always on beta).
This is a huge update on the core of Canola2, and we tried to make it as stable as possible.
There was a small character bug on the scanner, fixed and already available (maemo2 packages) and apart from that no more serious problems. Of course we will try to see how to improve things, and we are investigating some video related issues, but as far as we could have information, it’s more the case of too high resolution videos (that plays on mplayer out of canola) but not on embedded mplayer.
At least seems that the problem with the scanner is gone, some people still have crazy files that don’t get indexed, but the least we can do is receive the files, test, and if it’s a bug we fix and release it again :)
Also: youtube and last.fm are not there, because we need a little bit more time for 2 things:
1. to separate bugs from beta6 to bugs from youtube and last.fm
2. to fine test it more. We had some other projects priorities and those 2 plugins were delayed :/
But, I we’re more than happy to receive your feedback, and if you send via the site, make sure you place your email, I answer every single email myself, no bots allowed :)

I was happy to see improvements in podcast area, today’s episodes and those things.
However I noticed that my feeds are now somehow mixed up. I mean if I go to My Feeds and select the first feed it lists podcasts of some other feed I have subscribed. Is there a way to fix this or do I have to delete all of my feeds and add them again one by one?
March 14th, 2008 at 1:22 amHi Tommi, can you provide more info? So you had your feed previously installed the update and things got mixed up right? :/
I think the changes in the database could have been the issue : / we will try to reproduce to kill this bug, but I think for your now you will need to add again.
To make life easier, you can use the canola-tuning plugin for the browser (just click on the rss feed icon on the browser toolbar) and add it.
Sorry sorry for the inconvenience of this..
March 14th, 2008 at 9:58 pmYeah, I have around 15 feeds subscribed and after I installed the beta6 the items in every feed belong to some other feed I have subscribed. So everything is there but in wrong feeds.
It seems that new items appear to correct feeds so this can be replicated only by subscribing feeds with beta5 and then upgrading to beta6.
I will use canola-tuning and add my feeds again, no problems…
March 15th, 2008 at 12:35 amOk, something strange is still happening.
I deleted all my feeds and added those again one by one. Everything was ok, all items were under correct feeds. But then I deleted one feed and added some more and after that some feeds show items from wrong feeds.
So now the situation is that most of my subscribed feeds are ok but some are mixed.
March 15th, 2008 at 2:27 amThis is really, really sad. So we probably leaved one odd bug behind. Tommi again sorry, but we would gladly receive from you the “sequence” with the feeds (We will try with some of ours) but can you send yours? just to make sure we will be able to reproduce the bug correctly.
What I can do is just promise you that we WILL fix it for beta7, or if it takes more than 2 weeks make a fix in beta6 already.
I will also, put you contact directly with Kenneth, the dev of the podcast part. We still need to iron out it quite nicely. Podcast is by far the most complex plugin of Canola, and it’s quite hard to make it as good as we intended :/
Thanks again for the nice bug report…
