maybe things were predicted sooner that expected =)
This FM interface was done more than 1 year ago, way before the n800. We considered the canola a media player, so we tried to “test” almost every feature on it’s UI.
Simple radio FM is easy and can be done PRETTY fast if we the API is public. Let’s see, but of course we would love to see one more use of it.
Question for potencial FM users on Canola :
As you can imagine, there’s no “solid” way to make the 4 buttons of the hildon UI (scan between favorite stations & auto scan + stepped scan)
So, is it ok for you a simple interface where, you have your favorite radios on a list screen, and you can :
single touch for step by step scanning
touch and hold for auto-scan?
tell me what you guys think. It like it simple, so lets see what we can do about it =)

single touch for step by step scanning
touch and hold for auto-scan
Definately! Sounds brilliant. Can’t wait for your N800 release :-)
February 8th, 2007 at 2:32 pmSounds great! Were you originally planning to do anything with the radio interface, or was it just a ‘hmm, look what we can do!’ thing?
I’m waiting with bated breath for a test canola release for the n800 =).
February 8th, 2007 at 4:09 pmOK for the 4 buttons but please add a way to directly enter a frequency: that way we won’t have to push a button to jump from 90.20 to 103.40! TIA. :-)
February 8th, 2007 at 4:13 pmSounds really good and simple, how will favourites be stored, Using Web GUI interface or the rating method in Canola perhaps? A quick way to name the channels if no auto channel naming exists, directly from the FM Channel selected would also be nice.
Just got my Wi-F Internet Connection up and running tonight since moving back to UK with work.
(Need time to catch up on what has been going on in the last couple of weeks)
Looking forward to trying out the Canola and Media Streamer updates on both the Nokia 770 and my New Nokia N800 :-)
February 8th, 2007 at 4:53 pmwell. make it like a car radio. a “seek” toggle button, if it’s on then the left-right touches “seek”, if not, they just step thru the frequencies.
also please make an interface where you can enter the frequency and it just goes there.
February 8th, 2007 at 5:02 pmCar radio is a good way to go… I can’t wait to get Canola for the N800!
February 8th, 2007 at 5:14 pmSo what were you using for radio hardware a year ago?
@disq, lol, you must have forgot: Canola doesn’t allow any keyboard input (except in the web ui).
February 8th, 2007 at 7:12 pmHei, thanks for the feedback.
@Wolf08 : no we are just playing with future possibilities =)
@Anon : it was just a graphic mockup, never went into development because there was no hardware. That’s why I’m asking how would you guys like the final UI for it.
@disq : unfortunately we don’t have input methods. I know it sucks, but think of us a media player not the full platform. (ok I know Ipod has now a input method, but even for radio that would be painful)
@mikel : I would like to use the ratings features. Just don’t know how to do it yet. After that you can change names on the webconfigurator. We are investigating if there’s an way to pick up info, but unfortunately we don’t have input methods as you know : / I know opening webconfigure sounds like a p in the ASS, but come on you will only need to do that once in a while =)
@jonathan : I can sweat to your that we are doing our best, but some nasty platform issues are keeping us from releasing it. We could release it right away, but I think some of you would hate some “internal error” that are happening. ;/
